I’ve read a lot about the economy in the past year. What strikes me as interesting is the local economy. I live in Albany which is northwest of St. Cloud about 15 miles. Albany is slated to gain a manufacturing plant (Well’s Concrete) that will add 200 employees to the local economy. I’ve known about this coming announcement for sometime now and have been excited about the local economy. Take a look at what’s gone on in the past year and what’s planned for spring.
The Wells Concrete’s project is the largest announcement of new jobs in the area since ING Direct said it would bring an additional 400 employees to downtown St. Cloud. ING will add those jobs after it opens a 75,000-square-foot building in April. Little Falls boat manufacturers Larson and Crestliner have added 190 jobs to its work force this year. ATV and snowmobile manufacturer Arctic Cat opened an ATV engine manufacturing facility in February, adding 60 jobs to the area.
I’m optimistic with that many new jobs the local economy will continue to show strong growth. Working in the real estate industry this past year has been difficult at times. However, the phone is starting to ring steady again with people looking for property. Now translate the new jobs into new members of the community and contributors to the local economy, and we may be somewhat less exposed.
