Today, I’ve got an auction in Carson City, NV. The auction starts at 10am and has only 300 lots. We should be done by 2pm. That means, I’ll have an afternoon commute to Sacramento. The drive to Sacramento is over the Sierra Nevada Mountains and promises to have some spectacular views. I’m hoping I get out of the auction site with some daylight left. Otherwise, it’s going to be a picture free drive. On the drive, I’ll pass within a few miles of where the Donner Party passed through or, rather, attempted to pass through the mountains. I’m looking forward to the trip, and I’m hoping I’ve got some daylight so I can get some cool mountain photos.

For some reason I thought you passed over a part of the road that they do call the donner pass.
When I was planing to fly into SF or SAC to go to reno last year, I could swear I would have to to make the same drive your taking.
Oh well, not the first time I would have been wrong!
dpe…
DPE,
Indeed you were partially correct. I-80 passes over (actually under) Donner Pass Road which is the original trail. You need to take an exit to actually get onto Donner Pass Road which is well worth the summit. Unbelievable views!
I’d bet you would have taken the same route. It turned out to be the quickest/shortest route between Sacramento and Reno (well most of my route, since I came from Carson City).
We’ll have to make it out there and do some off the beaten path exploring! So far, as you can probably tell, I’m having a blast!!
