Gopher Hoops

I was excited when the Gophers hired Tubby Smith as their new basketball head coach.  I knew that he would bring changes to the U.  However, I never thought he’d turn the program around in such quick fashion.  We’re 2-0 and successfully playing a style of defense both Monson and Molinari said we couldn’t play.  At this rate, it will not take long to pack the barn and get it rocking again.

I fondly remember watching Gopher hoops back in the day with my dad.  You could almost feel the loudness of the Barn.  The TV cameras almost always were shaking from the loudness of the crowd.  It didn’t get much better than that.  Although, in ’95 when I had season tickets with my Dad there was some very cool moments at the Barn.  As the years passed, my interest in Monson’s teams waned to a point of apathy.

It took Tubby all of 1 game to get me excited about the program again.  In fact, I listened to much of the first game and listened to all of the second game on the radio.  Of course, two respectable wins will have that affect on a person.  The other thing that has got me excited is the recruiting.  Gopher Sports has reported that Devoe Joseph signed with the Gophers and opined that we may have a recruiting class in the top 10 of the nation (not the Big Ten as in past years). [Update: Gopher Sports is now reporting the Gopher recruiting class is ranked 7th in the nation by Hoop Scoop Online after the early signing period.]
