GPS Units

Last week when I was in Nevada and California, I rented a Garmin GPS unit.  I used it everywhere I went, and was very impressed with its operation.  So much so that when I returned to Minnesota, I purchased a unit for myself.  I picked up the Garmin nüvi 200W.  So far, I have only used it to travel to places with which I am familiar.  However, it has already taken me on different routes than I normally would have traveled – amazingly enough, the new route was faster although more miles.

Last night, I spent about an hour programming in my favorite destinations.  I put in all the locations and establishments that I tend to travel to on a somewhat regular basis.  I am excited try out the GPS with some of my more regular destinations.  Already, I love how I just need to touch the screen and pick my destination, and the GPS provides me with the fastest route within a few seconds.

This is my second GPS.  I also own a GPS for use when hiking or hunting.  I have only used that GPS on a few occasions.  However, I also enjoy the simplicity and ease of use with that GPS unit.  I hope that this coming spring/summer I will make it back out to the Lake Tahoe area, and have a need to use my outdoor GPS while exploring off the beaten paths in the mountains!
