I laughed pretty good at the story you sent about his dog, and its involvement in negotiations with Germany. He talks to his dog about foreign policy? Chalk up another reason why he is a threat to me.

I'm still not convinced his foreign policy is in the best interest of world peace or a stable global economy. He may be good for Russia, but the days of thinking solely about the impact of foreign policies as a matter of interior politics is quickly coming to an end, and quite frankly is very much gone despite what my friend in the White House seems to think.

I wouldn't worry about Russia expanding her borders, unless perhaps Mr. Putin decides that he wants Alaska back. If he could get away with that, he would, but at the same time, any world leader is always looking for more land, especially nice oil-rich land.

Some of his actions are a bit ridiculous, the most recent one concerning his dog. In an effort to keep better track of his Black Lab Koni (which by the way is a rarity breed in Russia - rarity outside the US, but to see one is Russia means that someone paid major bones for the dog), he had the dog installed with a GPS system. It is well-known that he "consults" Koni on tough issues and talks to her about foreign diplomacy. Koni is usually in the room when he has sit-downs with other heads of state. Can you imagine the secrets this dog knows??? Google "Koni" or "Putin's Dog". You should find a treasure of news stories.

I am off to Moscow as we speak, so I can't comment too much on this right now, but I'll have something more to say in 2 days.
