Today was my travel day to Reno/Carson City, Nevada. I’m currently relaxing in my hotel room at the Plaza Hotel in Carson City. For $160 for two nights, I wasn’t sure what to expect. However, so far, I’ve been impressed.
To say the rest of the day has been an adventure is an understatement. My flight from Minneapolis left on time at 6:10 this morning. We were scheduled to land at 8:45 with my connector to Reno departing at 9:25. It was going to be close, but I figured I had enough time. However, as we began our descent into Dallas, I noticed that I was going to have a sprint to make my connector as the time was closer to 9:00. That is, until we pulled out of our landing because a light bulb was burnt out in the cockpit. Apparently the pilots could not tell if the landing gear had locked into place. They got the bulb replaced and the plane landed. By then, it was 9:30 and my plane was long gone. The ticket agent was able to get me on the next flight to Reno at 12:10.
I finally made it to Reno at 2:00 (4:00 central). It was a long day of traveling. The good news is that my morning flight was very empty and I shared the entire row with just two other people. The second flight was packed. But there was an open seat between me and the woman in my row. Both the people who shared the immediate row with me were pretty cool. The first flight was highlighted by a rousing conversation about Gopher Hoops. The second flight was highlighted by a stimulating conversation about historical novels.
Well, I’m off to explore the city a bit. I got a recommendation to go to Red’s Old 395 for dinner from the Hotel Staff. I’m off to have me some dinner and hit the hay early. I’m beat from a long day of traveling. Tomorrow, I’ve got some work to get done, and I’m going to try and make it to the local hot spots!
