Update Saturday
It’s Saturday, and that means it’s update day around here. This weeks updates are all related to the site:
- I moved the about section to the bottom of the sidebar. I also added the number of spam comments that have been caught by my filter. No big news here, other than I’m over 10,000 words on my site. That’s a lot of babbling about nothing.
- Where the about section was, I added the random photo section. Now, one random photo from my Flickr account is shown. To do that, I expanded the sidebar, now it’s a bit wider. I enjoy seeing a random photo from my collection. I hope you’re enjoying them also!
- I added the like my photo section with a link to purchase some of my photos. I’m not sure many people will actually purchase any of my photos, but I figured what the heck! I make a few dollars depending on what is purchased from just the print all the way up to a huge framed print on canvas. I anticipate I’ll pick up a few sales here and there, but not sell anything of consequence. Heck, I even purchased one of the prints for myself. I’ll post details when it arrives (hopefully sometime next week).
- I changed the look of my links. They used to be underlined, but that looked weird to me. So, now they are green in color and bold. I like the look better than all the underlined links. Plus now they standout a bit more to the casual reader.
- In the random musings section, I added a date header to each of the musings. Now, you can quickly see if it’s a new musing, or if it’s an old musing. I toyed with adding a link to comment on the musings, but I haven’t been able to make it look right. Until then, I’ll keep comments on my musings turned off. If anyone knows how to edit a plugin to change its output, email me – I’d love some help!
- Lastly spurred on by a conversation at justaddwater.dk in the comment section, I turned off moderation of my comments. It was Jesper that convinced me it was for the betterment of my site. Thanks Jesper! Basically, this means anyone can comment on my site without needing approval. In the past, if you were a new commenter, your comment was held for my approval. Now, it appears immediately. Not that I’ve got a lot of comments around here, but this will contribute to timely conversations and comments without needing me to be around to approve comments.
You may have noticed a theme developing around here on Saturdays. I leave the post for updates on my site. However, in the future, the updates may also be about me, and what’s going on in my life. Either way, I’ll continue to keep Saturdays “Update Saturday.”
After my political post yesterday, I’m debating about making Fridays “Politic Friday.” As many of you know, I’ve got some interesting political outlooks that don’t necessary fit conveniently into the republican or democratic parties doctrines. I guess what I’m saying is that I’m more of a repubocrat. You know, a mix between republican and democrat. I still haven’t decided about the “Politic Friday” yet. However, at the moment, I’m leaning towards making it a weekly feature.
If I make a Politic Friday, it would make two weekly features – updates and politics. The other four days will be my random musings. However, there may be a sports day and technology day coming. Yet, I’m not sure. I’ve got to get consistent on the first two themes before I add a third or fourth!
Well, that’s about it for this week. As you can likely tell, my work here is never done. As always, tomorrow is a day off for me. I’ll see you on Monday!
